Frank Horvat is one of the most inventive song writers to come out of the contemporary scene in Canada. ...duos appear to tear through the composer's innards not simply to discover his heart, but to gather its myriad pieces and bind them back together again. Horvat's work is exquisitely eventful and almost insidiously

Toronto pianist [and composer] Frank Horvat likes to do things his way, not anyone else's. He ignores genre boundaries and isn’t afraid to mix politics with art.

These songs will grant one rare access to peer into the soul of a quintessential artist and tormented soul that none of us can get enough of.

Happy to present another NEW music video from the 'A Village of Landscapes' album collection, featuring bassoonist, Sébastien Malette, inspired by @michellevalberg's photography. Big thanks to @FACTORCanada for providing the funding.

From the 2023 album 'A Village of Landscapes,' performed by bassoonist Sébastien Malette, featuring the works of Canadian composer Frank Horvat.LISTEN on Apple Music: music.apple.com/ca/album/frank-horvat-a-village-of-landscapes/1681439139LISTEN on Spotify:open.spotify.com/album/6lueB6g3btROCrd8ohsp9eA Village of Landscapes is a 13-piece suite for bassoon inspired by photos of stirring natural landscapes in Canada. Each photo was taken by award-winning nature photographer, Michelle Valberg. The 13 pieces in the suite represent each of the 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada. Thanks to my album collaborators, Sébastien Malette (bassoon), and Michelle Valberg (photography), this composition, Great Bear Rainforest, takes us to the province of British Columbia in a calm and slightly mysterious way.The word “Canada” originates from the Iroquoian word, “Kanata” meaning “village” or settlement. And despite our large size geographically, we are metaphorically a village of various landscapes. We are blessed in this country with such natural beauty. It brings us joy and peace but also inspires us and leaves us awestruck. It is all these feelings that should motivate us to protect the landscapes that encompass our planet. It is such an honour and privilege to use the power of music, through Michelle’s lens, to give this visual beauty another dimension through music.– Frank HorvatPERFORMER:Sébastien Malette (bassoon)PERFORMER FOOTAGE:Director of Photography: Matthew A.
